Time to Kick into Water Polo for 2023

5 Feb

We hope you all had a fantastic break over Christmas and New Year and got a chance to put your feet up and spend time with family and friends.
While we had a busy end to 2022 with our U12 team playing at Olympic Hopefuls in October and our U14 boys and girls away at Nationals in Christchurch the week before Christmas the committee has also put in a huge effort getting the club ready for 2023. So what is happening in 2023?

  • REGISTRATIONS: Registrations are open for 2023. To register go to https://otagowaterpolo.friendlymanager.com/register
  • TRAINING: Our training times are locked in (see timetable below) and training will kick off after Waitangi weekend. Over the next couple of weeks we will be introducing you to your age group coaches who will work with our players throughout 2023.
  • SOME NEW FACES: We would like to welcome Jenny Wagner and Tim Chirnside to the Otago Water Polo Team. Jenny will be taking on the role of Otago Water Polo Administrator and Tim will be taking over managing our Intermediate and Secondary School Competitions.
  • FUNDRAISING: As always fundraising is crucial to keeping our club running and for 2023 we are planning two major club events to raise funds for coaching, pool hire and equipment. On March 11th put your thinking caps on and grab a team for our Otago Water Polo Quiz night at the Village Green, Sunnyvale then on the 17th June we are holding a "Host a Roast" dinner and auction night.
  • NEW BRANDINGThanks to everyone who completed our branding survey. Our community overwhelmingly supported a change to our logo with over 90% of respondents voting for change and 75% also wanting a change in uniform. Of those favouring a change everyone wanted to keep the blue and gold colour scheme but ditch “the big guy spinning the ball”. Some of our very talented members have been sending in new logo ideas and we will collate them over the next few weeks and get them out to be voted on. Our aim is to have the new logo in place before uniform orders go out at the end of Term 1.
  • NATIONAL TOURNAMENTS: The NZWP tournament calendar is below. We are planning on entering age group teams in all of the tournaments below so please put the dates in your calendars. We are currently working to make this and some pre-national warm up games against other South Island clubs happen - the more game time we can get the more competitive we will be! Stay tuned for more details.
  • KEEP UP-To-DATE: please follow us on FaceBook and Instagram to keep up to date.

As always if you have any suggestions or can lend a hand please get in touch with the committee.
Welcome back to the pool and a very exciting and busy year for Otago Water Polo. We can't wait to see you all Pool side!!!
